SCAR & SAGE are a male/female duo who write like people who have already lived through the hard part. Scar — Jesse "Scar" Callahan, 34 — sings in a deep, gravelly bass-baritone and plays guitar. Sage — Sage Anderson, 28, out of Atlanta — sings in a smoky alto-mezzo and drops into short rhythmic passages when the song calls for it. Together their sound sits where modern Southern outlaw country meets muscular Southern rock and contemporary rhythm: dirty acoustic and electric guitars, heavy drums, modern low end, and two voices that were built to sit next to each other.

Both of them are survivors. Scar's history includes childhood abuse, addiction and incarceration, and the recovery he built after it. Sage survived childhood trafficking and became an outspoken advocate against trafficking and child exploitation. Neither of them saved the other. They met as two people already standing, and decided to stand together.

Their debut album, STONE COLD RIVER, was written and produced by the duo for SONRYZE RECORDS. Twelve songs about black water, Georgia back roads, dangerous love, generational cycles and the stubborn work of staying alive. The record is direct, cinematic and unsentimental — the truth, told plainly, with a band behind it.
